Student Opportunities - Internships and Cooperative Education

This program is for students who are motivated and forward thinking. Courses integrate practical work experience with classroom learning. Students are placed in an industrial setting (PHY 495 - Engineering Physics Practice) or an academic or government laboratory or an industrial environment (PHY 496 - Field Experience in Physics). The experience is invaluable!

Prerequisites:

PHY 495
  • Sophomore standing in Engineering Physics
  • Completed 16 credit hours in physics
  • Approval of Department Chairperson
  • GPA of 2.0 or better

  • Sophomore standing in Physics or Engineering Physics
  • Completed 16 credit hours in physics
  • Approval of Department Chairperson
  • GPA of 2.0 or better

Cooperative Education

The student is placed in an engineering or scientific environment for a period of a few to several months. Students are supervised by an engineer or scientist to perform valuable functions and learn by actual experience.

About twenty percent of graduates have participated in this program. Placements are offered during the regular academic year, as well as during summer session.
